About this place
Sitting along a neighbourhood street in Sumida Ward's Narihira, right in the shadow of Tokyo Skytree, Kimuraya is an unpretentious bakery lined with modest, comforting breads. The shelves span everything from sweet buns to substantial savoury rolls, creating an easygoing atmosphere well suited to grabbing everyday breakfast or a quick afternoon snack.
Among the sweet pastries, the retro three-flavour roll immediately catches the eye. In addition to custard and chocolate cream, the third pocket holds sweet-tart apricot jam—a playful house twist that lets you enjoy three distinct sweets in one bun. Other comforting choices include homemade cream buns filled with rich, egg-forward custard, as well as the bakery's signature Siberia, featuring thick slabs of sweet red bean jelly sandwiched between soft castella sponge.
When you want something more substantial, the bakery's hot-dog rolls and fried-cutlet buns deliver hearty sustenance. Standouts include a crunchy curry doughnut stuffed with mild curry and a runny soft-boiled egg, alongside fried wiener buns and ham cutlet rolls topped with tartar sauce. Handcrafted and full of old-school character, these items are just as enjoyable eaten immediately on the go as they are toasted lightly at home.
